Performance Appraisal Checklist 2024
A performance appraisal is a process used by organizations that evaluates and documents an employee’s performance for a specific time period. The process involves the setting of clear goals, feedback, employee self-assessment and manager evaluations.
With a performance appraisal checklist, it is easy to map out the required steps for a smooth appraisal process. Generally, a performance appraisal includes the following:
- Goal Setting: Clear and measurable goals set at the start of every appraisal period.
- Feedback and Assessment: During the appraisal period, managers provide continuous feedback and assessment, while also asking employees to evaluate their own performance.
- Performance Rating: Based on the evaluation, the employee is given a performance rating.
- Training and Development Planning: Any weaknesses identified during the appraisal process can help managers plan for training programmes for employees.
- Rewards and Recognition: Employees that perform well are rewarded with promotions, salary increases, bonuses, or other forms of rewards.
Performance appraisals document employee performance, enhance communication, and increase an employee’s alignment with an organization’s goals. Further, these appraisals can support strategic HR decisions such as workforce planning, promotions and terminations.
