Employee offboarding refers to a formal and structured process where an employee is facilitated with a smooth exit from a company.
Offboarding takes place when the employee either resigns, retires or is terminated. Employers in Malaysia are required to adhere to the Employment Act 1955 during the offboarding process.
Managing an employee’s final wages is a key concern during employee offboarding. Any contributions required for social security funds such as SOCSO or EPF must be finalised before time.
It is also important that an employee returns all company property such as laptops, access cards, vehicles before departing the company. Moreover, the employee’s access to company software or databases must be revoked timely to protect organizational data and intellectual property.
Employers are also encouraged to hold exit interviews to gather insights related to employee satisfaction, workplace culture and feedback for improvement. This feedback can play an important role in improving company retention strategies.
